The Metro Water District, Georgia Environmental Protection Division, local governments and utilities and numerous stakeholders all play important roles in developing and implementing the District’s water resource management strategies. Members include the Governing Board, Executive, Technical Coordinating Committee, Basin Advisory Councils, Finance and Legislative Committees.

Procedures for Public Participation

Governing Board

The 26-member Governing Board is the decision-making body for the Metro Water District. It includes 16 elected officials from the Metro Water District communities as well as 10 citizen members. An Executive Committee, Finance Committee and Legislative Committee serve in an advisory capacity to the Governing Board.

Governing Board

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Governing Board. Duties include general counsel, guidance on staffing and committees, officer nominations and operating budget recommendations.

Technical Coordinating Committee

The Technical Coordinating Committee is comprised of local government officials and staff from counties, cities and authorities in the Metro Water District. The committee provides data and information to support the District’s work in the areas of water supply and conservation, wastewater management, stormwater and watershed management, and education and public awareness.

Basin Advisory Councils

Basin Advisory Councils offer guidance in the development and implementation of policy-related and basin-specific issues. They provide input on plan content to the Governing Board, Technical Coordinating Committee and Metro Water District staff. The Basin Advisory Councils are comprised of a diverse membership of basin stakeholders including water professionals, business leaders, environmental advocates and other interested individuals and groups.

Basin Advisory Councils represent each of the major river basins within the region and Lake Lanier.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is chaired by Secretary-Treasurer and includes at least five members who serve in an advisory capacity to the Governing Board on financial matters. The Finance Committee develops recommendations for funding structures, provides counsel on the District financial condition and proposes an annual budget.
