2019 STREAM Award Application

The 2019 STREAM Award for Implementing Best Climate Resiliency Plans & Strategies will celebrate the water supply and wastewater planning divisions and utilities in our region that have gone above and beyond the requirements of the Water Resource Management Plan's Integrated Integrated-2 and Integrated-4, and as recommended in the 2015 Climate Resiliency Study (Table 5.3.9). A full list of adaptive strategies can be found in Appendix D.
    Please pick whether this form submission deals with your organization's efforts as a water supplier or wastewater service provider. If your organization does both, you may submit the form twice, once from each perspective.
  • Please provide a general overview of how your utility, authority or local government's efforts in climate resiliency planning and strategizing meets the guiding principles of STREAM: SUSTAINABLE in practice; THOUGHTFUL and innovative; REGIONAL in scale; actively ENGAGES the community; APPLICABLE to other communities; and provides MEASURED success.
  • How has your utility or local government integrated policies and projects that protect against future climate conditions? Describe how you prioritized any of the following adaptation strategies as part of your water and wastewater master planning, or how you have completed work outside of this list. Please answer ANY of the following questions that may apply.
  • Does your community prioritize projects that reduce the risk of damaging stormwater runoff flows, reduce high pollutant loads, or recharge local water supplies?
  • Does your community have a drought management plan that includes supply and demand management? Have trigger levels been identified for response actions based on time of year, demand, and status of water availability?
  • Does your community have a comprehensive outreach and education program to encourage water conservation? Are there protocols for surface water withdrawal procedures for changes in drought conditions, water supply, and increased storm depths?
  • Does your community have a diverse menu of options that complement current water supply to address concerns during times of increased drought and water demand?
  • Has your community analyzed extreme precipitation to understand the risks and impacts on water and sewer infrastructure systems? Has a model been developed to predict future runoff conditions due to increased storm depth?
  • Has your community evaluated the potential for increased maintenance and inspection costs due to higher intensity droughts (e.g. tree root migration), storm depths, and the associated sediment transport?
  • Has your community implemented other items that improve water and wastewater system resilience to future climate trends? (See Appendix D to the 2015 Utility Climate Resiliency Study.)
