(ATLANTA – June 11, 2026) — The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District (District) is pleased to welcome Katherine Atteberry as the new District Manager and Shellby Miller as the new District Coordinator.
Atteberry will lead planning, administration, and stakeholder engagement for the District’s core programs and initiatives. These include regional water resources planning, water efficiency, climate resilience, and water quality protection across the 15-county metro Atlanta area. She will report to Danny Johnson, Director of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District.
With 25 years of experience in stormwater management and watershed protection across the public and private sectors, Atteberry brings extensive technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and collaborative leadership to the District.
She began her career with the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources before joining Jacobs Engineering, where she worked nationally and internationally on stormwater management, watershed protection, and National Environmental Policy Act initiatives. She later returned to Gwinnett County to lead watershed improvement projects, before joining the District and Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) in 2019. Most recently she served as the District’s Stormwater Planning Manager, providing planning and regulatory support to improve water quality through community partnerships and policy guidance.
“Katherine brings a strong combination of technical knowledge, regional experience, and a deep commitment to protecting our water resources,” said Johnson. “She has spent her career building partnerships and advancing practical solutions that benefit both communities and the environment. We’re excited for her to help lead the District’s comprehensive regional planning work into the future.”
Miller brings more than eight years of experience in geospatial analysis, data management, and regional water planning to her new role as District Coordinator. A certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP), she previously served as a Principal Data Analyst with ARC’s Natural Resources Department, where she developed GIS applications, managed predictive modeling systems for streamflow and reservoir monitoring, and facilitated coordination among regional partners. Working closely with District leadership, Miller will help advance the District’s work plan through project management, program coordination activities, and oversight of consultant contracts.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Geosciences with a concentration in Water Sciences from Georgia State University.
